Except your own founding fathers were Deists, not fundamentalists. They organized the seperation from church and state.

If the Bible was the basis for law, why bother? America was founded on NOT forcing a people down a path they did not want, was it not?
No, they organized the First Amendment which included separation of church and state. The First Amendment wasn't specifically drafted for that specific aspect, but as collective whole. Your comment said

You mean things YOU in particular find morally reprehensible. Morality is not a chart of absolutes.
So my response was that it's more than likely the majority of Americans have the same chart of morality based on the dominant religious group of the nation, which is Christianity. So when you judge whether a nation is becoming more immoral you have to have something to compare it to. Which is where Christianity comes in.

As for the founding fathers, I'm not sure where that comment came from so I'll just say that some used the Bible, not for the basis of law, but more of an indirect guidance. Just like some founders were baptized, some weren't, etc. America is not a Theocracy, it's very similar to today, a collection of various groups, religions, and ethnicities living together.

And my point is: why should those who do not share your morality be yoked by standards they do not agree with?

You're right. They shouldn't. But my first comment was that the USA is becoming less moral based on the morality of the US. You don't have to agree with it, but you can't deny it. But you are correct, nobody should be forced to believe what others believe.

Its morals are shifting from a religious backbone to a generically secular backbone. That does not make it less moral, just morally different.

We could argue semantics literally all day and night, but it will end up completely the same but we'd each have an additional 50 posts which I don't think anybody wants. So to save all of those from reading a fruitless debate, I will motion for the good old, "we can agree to disagree."

You can second that, Daemon, than we'll do an all in favor voice vote, or in this case, written vote, to see if the motion passes. If the motion passes, we can move on from this thread and to the next. ^_^

I can respext our differences on this. I actually like debating against you, even though we rarely agree.

On a side note, I'd love to see your thoughts on DBZ controversies lol I keep hoping to see you through the years on here.

This topic is so Steve...

Why should men be able to exploit sports if it comes easy to some of them without practice? Same thing, different physical advantage.
